Editorial & Sourcing Policy

Plain answers to a fair question: where does this come from, and what's actually ours?

Imported listings vs. our own advice

Most of what you see on Oklahoma Events — event names, dates, times, venues, and contact details — is aggregated from public sources, including Oklahoma's tourism feeds and venue and promoter websites. Bare facts like a date or an address aren't something anyone owns, and we pass them through to help you find things to do.

The descriptive copy and photos attached to those listings are a different matter: they were written and taken by the organizers or their sources, who hold their own rights to them. We don't claim authorship of that material, and showing it here doesn't mean we've licensed it — see the next section.

Our original advice is separate and clearly labeled. A published "why we picked it" note, a "before you go" tip, or an event pick in the Weekend Guide is our own writing, and each such event-specific note is read and signed off by a person on our team before it's published. (The general planning method on the guide is our editorial writing too, but it's evergreen guidance, not a review of any one event.) Anything editorial carries a label saying so and is not verified by the organizer.

Public availability is not permission

A listing being publicly reachable on the internet is not the same as a license to reuse it commercially. We treat source availability and source permission as two different things, and we track the rights status of material we feature internally. Where commercial rights for a source's descriptions or photos are unknown or not granted, we don't monetize around that material — advertising is gated to pages built on content we're cleared to use.

How we use AI

We use AI tools to help with routine editing — cleaning up formatting, drafting first passes, catching typos. AI does not manufacture originality or stand in for judgment: a human decides what to feature, writes or signs off on the advice, and reviews it before anything is published. An unreviewed draft is never shown to the public.

Paid placements

If a placement is sponsored or paid, it is labeled as such and kept distinct from our editorial picks. Our event picks are never for sale — being featured in the Weekend Guide can't be bought. Sponsorship and event-promotion arrangements are handled separately through our advertise & sponsor page.

Corrections

Found something wrong — a bad date, a closed venue, a listing that shouldn't be here? Tell us through the contact form on our advertise page; it reaches us directly. Include a link or detail so we can check it against the source, and we'll fix or remove it.
